1. Trees can add value to your property
A series of international third-party studies have shown that trees increase property prices by between 5% to 18% (CABE Space, 2005 and Morales et al, 1983).
However by improperly maintaining your trees, you may also decrease the property value should you wish to sell.
Ideally you should keep on top of the maintenance of your trees and have an impartial arboricultural consultant assess them on a regular basis. You never know, a little work on your green giants could save you money in the long run!
2. Trees can save on energy bills
Trees are a natural wind blocker and can stop you from turning the heating up during the cold winter months. This means you could pay 20 - 50% less on your bills! It's a perfect reason to go green and use a natural garden feature to keep yourself warm.
Trees can also provide cooling summer shade as well as insulation against heat loss in winter. During this recent heatwave the evaporation from a single large tree can produce the cooling effect of 10 room-sized air conditioners operating 24 hours a day!
3. Fewer days off sick
Being around trees also reduces stress, lowers blood pressure and can uplift your mood. walking and looking at them can even reduce the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These health benefits can mean fewer days off work and less money spent on medication.
A field survey to assess the restorative effects of green areas and trees in Zurich, Switzerland (Hansmann et al., 2007), showed the recovery ratio for stress was 87%, and the reduction in headaches was 52%.
